I actually saw a European woman using a car-top tent up in The Basin Campground a couple of years ago.  It was some wierd European design that I have never seen before or since.  Later I commented to the campground host about it and he said the woman had been complaining about everyone looking at her.   It was quite a spectacle to see and attracted a lot of gawkers (myself included).  I should have taken a picture of it but the woman seemed pissed off at all the "attention" she was getting from other campers... TWWG

Clowns at formal events have the same problem.

A friend of mine has this Roof Top Tent   he is a distributor, should anyone be interested in one. He says that this manufacturer is the one who makes the tents for ARB. I am not sure of this, but check out their webpage for more information.

Form a first look, the prices are good...check it out, let us know.

Stay thirsty, my friends.

If a roof top tent is what you need to get out into the outback and enjoy it, then more power to you.  But if you think a roof top tent is going to stop bears from eating you, then you need to talk to people who have camped in Yosemite NP about bears.  A sheet metal car doesn't bother them, and neither will a piece of canvas on top of a car.

There are a few problems with roof tops that should be mentioned.  Most weigh over #100 (ARB)and that kind of weight on the top of a car is completely the opposite thing you want if you are doing any low range 4x4ing.  Center of gravity is important for not only tipping over, but also traction to the front vs rear tires.  Try going up a few 1.5 foot steps with the weight all in the rear and the front tires will not pull the rest of the car up.  The extra weight up top is very stressful to the B an C posts on the truck.  Even tanks like Land Cruisers develope cracks at the tops of their second-door frames.  There is a loss of MPG due to the air no longer traveling over the top of your truck smoothly (hear that wind noise?).  Also, it is tough enough to find a much smaller (tent size) patch of ground that is smooth enough and angled correctly for a good night sleeping postition witout dealing with only 4 contact points that must be just right.

Finally, forgive me from being a little off topic, but if you believe that man is the "intruder" in the world that was made for us, please take time and focus on the creation around you.  Be brave and explore areas outside your comfort zone for the answers which you have not found yet.

Tanks for your good thought. I saw Yosemite NP. at internet. İt's interesting and beautiful places. Really it's diificult to camping at this area. Bears can climbing very easy to car top tent. You must have a gun under pillow. But it's safely than other tents.

You're looking for dealers? Google 'tents, car, rooftop, ca' then winnow down the considerable hits to find the people near you and go look at one.
