Need a 3rd itinerary suggestion for BBRSP 4wheeling.
« on: February 01, 2016, 02:53:05 PM »
I'll be in the area March 6-11.
I've put together an itinerary for the folks I'm heading down there with.
I've gone with an all day trip from the Barton Warnock station to Nowhere and back, another all day trip to Casa Ramon and explore that area.
I want to add a 3rd fun day exploring with some great wheeling and views.
The last choices are:
Fresno Canyon
Rancherias Loop
Cerro De Burros
Oso Loop
Or any combination of the above :)

I'd love to hear anyone's ideas and reasons to try one of these trails.
Photos and videos much appreciated.

I don't know about the others, but the Rancherias Loop is hiking only.
Wake me when it's time to go.

Drive down Fresno Canyon to Crawford-Smith house.  Hike down the canyon a ways.  On the way in or out, hike out to Mexicano Falls.

Or drive out to the Solitario

True, but the upper section of the loop is actually a road. A very rough and remote road, but a road nonetheless. It is best traversed from West to East and connects the Guale road with Javalin Pens. I've only biked it but I imagine that it will be quite the challenge in a 4x4.

I was interested in the Fresno Canyon myself, so that's what I'll suggest.
If the group ends up wanting a shorter day of it, then I'm going to hit Cerro De las Burras from Hwy 170.
I went back and looked at the Road to Nowhere PDF and saw that the Rancherias wasn't a loop, but just as Ranger Tim explained it.
Still... it sounds challenging :)

Thanks again for all the input.

Las Burras Road off the Southwest end of the Oso Loop is also a pretty tough road. It doesn't really go anywhere, but the views are amazing and it really is very remote.

Google Maps has it listed as Aso Loop, no wonder I couldn't find it. HAHA.  Looks like the one on the "Road to Nowhere" guide that ends at the las burras trailhead.
That looks like an interesting little segment, if it's the one I think it is.
If I don't hit it this trip, next trip I'll include it.
