My favorite ride for Big Bend - 1981 Jeep CJ7.  She gets to ride a trailer up there and back, but she has traveled almost every back road in the park in fine style.

The 95 Jeep YJ on its maiden, and final, voyage to BB.

What happened to the YJ?

I've had two '83 CJ's and they are the best 4WD rig for the dollar imho

iCe, the YJ is going on the 'For Sale' road.  Can't drive two, and the old CJ is just too classic to let go.  IMHO, the CJ is the premiere off-road vehicle of the Jeep family.

I took a photo of this classic vehicle a few years ago in the Basin parking lot.  I just wish it were mine!

I always chuckle a bit when I see a Vette in the park, but like you say, it's fun getting there!

2005 Toyota Tundra with a dead battery at the Elephant Tusk trailhead about 3 weeks ago.  Thank god for Spot beacons and the US Border Patrol.

Remember kids, it was a long hot summer.  Check those water levels in your battery before you head out.

Ay, after we had that happen at McKinney Springs near the end of the great freeze in February, Jimbob bought one of those external batteries/chargers.  An addition to the extra 5-gallon water jug, tow straps, jumper cables, 12 volt air compressor, tire plugs, etc. we normally carry.

At McKinney Springs, we had the advantage of having cell phone service, a luxury one doesn't have on the east side of the Chisos.  It's amazing how things seem to fail at the most remote locations.  How many days were y'all away from the truck?

Al

P.S. The hood still made for great shade!  It wouldn't surprise me if you weren't visited by the Border Patrol, a ranger or volunteer at that site daily . . . worst case hike to river road where there is a comparative plethora of traffic.

Not sure if my Camry is in any pictures, but I'll add my Dad's minivan to the mix.
Oh yeah, did I mention we drove up there in a minivan?

The rain in the background had just come through.
