Airing down
« on: May 03, 2010, 03:09:56 PM »
Are the primitive backcountry roads in Big Bend rough enough to the point where airing down is necessary?  I know airing down is a good idea when rock crawling,  in sand, etc, but not sure if the roads in BIg Bend require it.

Under normal conditions, airing down is not necessary.  You may want to air down some for comfort, depending on your tires and what pressures you normally run.  There is no 'rock crawling' per se, and most roads are suitable for conventional, hi-clearance, 2wd vehicles.  Black Gap is probably the most extreme road, 4wd required, but it really isn't very tough.  If traveling N -S, you will have about a 2' step to navigate, but it is usually well ramped.  The only time I would consider airing down, other than for a softer ride, would be on some sections of the River Road after heavy rain, but wouldn't do it until conditions warranted.  Best advice is just to take it easy, and enjoy the views.

Don't bother..... :icon_rolleyes:  unless as pointed out , your suspension is stiff. then you might like the ride better.
