It looks like the NPS websites for at least some of the backcountry campsites have been restored and updated.

Sadly, http://www.nps.gov/bibe/planyourvisit/campsite_chilicotal.htm is still 404. :icon_rolleyes:

Not for me.  At least now.  Perhaps someone saw your post and fixed it?  Big Brother?

If so, that's the quickest response ever from the NPS when it comes to fixing/updating web pages.

This link has been posted elsewhere on the board, but I get tired of having to search for it. :icon_rolleyes:

This is a booklet put together by Ranger Eric when he was still in BIBE with info on all of the Chisos backcountry sites. I believe the visitor centers have a printout of it available for reference when getting your permits. It's pretty big (over 9MB), but that's because it has lots of pictures of the sites, etc.

As to primitive roadside sites, they are shown on the basic park map, which used to be easy to find on the NPS website. I gave up looking for it after a few minutes, but maybe someone else can find it. In the meantime, here's the old version from 2007:

Here's a backcountry roadside map that I annotated with the campsite numbers.
Here is Jim's version (click to see full-size):
