It would be great of one has LE experience (along with some academy training, apparently) and was into that sort of thing.

Personally, I would prefer a position as an interpretive ranger or even a biological science technician.
Ah Big Bend, we will soon return to reacquaint ourselves in our ritual of blood, exhaustion and dehydration. How can we resist the temptation to strip ourselves of the maladies of civilization?

I've stayed out there as a volunteer for an extended period of time of just a couple of weeks and  I wouldn't want to live out there.  You can't be hiking and exploring all the time and it's a long drive to anywhere with night life.  Gasoline and groceries are very expensive - most people that live out that way make runs to Midland to Sams or Costco once a month or so for staples and have deep freezes in their houses.     The closest "real" grocery store would be in Alpine or Fort Stockton - closest Wallyworld too.   LE's are probably living all over the park, RGV, PJ, and Castolon - living over at Castolon is a long ways from everything.

Ask Mrs. Muse - she lived out there for quite a while, she will have better insight into living out there.
