Hey, wazzz uuppp...Richard M. I have to start with the right foot here, I have yet to go to Big Bend ,will go sometime this year. But i am Serrano guy, meaning i love the High Sierras, mountain tops, you name it.

I have been reading all over, and this webpage is dedicated MOSTLY to issues related to Big Bend, which i like..believe me.

How ever, I want to share with you all, the flip side of the coin: The Mexican side of SIERRA DEL CARMEN, SIERRA DEL BURRO, and Other Mountain areas.

I have many pictures, and stories to share. Just want to make sure, i can do this and this is the right section to do this. :?:    :?:

Homero

David Locke is the ultimate authority on what's appropriate here, as this is his website.  However, I'm pretty sure he'd like to see any stuff you have on "the other side of Big Bend".  If you just want to point out links to stuff, this is the proper forum, just create a new topic with the subject name of whatever you want to point out.

If you have trip reports, feel free to put them in the Trip Reports forum.  If David feels they should be moved over to the Off Topic forum he can do that afterwards.

I know I'm looking forward to seeing more of your pictures and stories!

OK consider the original plan to make an international park on both sides of the border.  Just because our stupid politicians can't get their act together is no reason for us not to consider any information on both sides of the river to be part of the park.

Latest on the La linda Bridge & Int'l Park.............

The powerfull Cemex guys are discussiing with the state (Coahuila) authorities a way to see if they can buy the U.S. Side of the La Linda bridge. Since they are totally convinced that no effort will be done by the U.S authorities, they want to go on and purchase the land (U.S. side) to set up a tourist crossing, no commercial activity can be done thru here (impot export)  ,but at least we can open a window to people like us to venture in and from the parks.  [-o<

If this gets done...man!!!!!!...just imagine what we all can share, skies the limit. =D>

Regards to you all.
Stay thirsty, my friends.

Just have to wonder if the US would even consider selling the bridge/land at La Linda with the mess that's going on with the sell of ports to the UAE - AND NO, HECK NO, I'm NOT TRYING TO OPEN UP A CAN OF WORMS FOR A DICUSSION ON THAT TOPIC - just making a "point". per say...   8)

But, looking at the peace park webpage, doesn't look there has been any new news in quite a while...

The U.S Govt wanted to blow up the bridge, one time or another, all the town folks around BB..Marfa,Terlingua,Alpine,Marathon and some more were lobbying heavy to stop this action.

For the U.S. gov't to let somebody come in and take care of an abandoned bridge is a welcome blessing,,less money spent...go figure!!!!!!

I just stumble on this.

http://www.bigbendgazette.com/blog/_archives/2006/3/31/1853075.html

I truly hope is a start to something more endeavour...like reopening of the La Linda bridge, welcoming everybody to the Mexican side of the Park.

Believe me, there is a lot to visit and learn on both sides of the border.

BTW,those photos in the Gazette story, are from the Mexico side...I've been there. Wish you copuld be there with me as well.

Regards.
Stay thirsty, my friends.

I do too, hope that La Linda will one day be opened back up and also that you can LEGALLY cross @ BIBE.  But, I'm not about to place a wager on it.  Something "major" is going to have to change in order for there to be any consideration to opening it up.  With all the hoop-la in the States right now with the immigration issues, no, I'm not opening up that can of worms, it's the last thing on Washington's mind.
