Title: Groundfires & Woodfires Prohibitied?
Post by: Brent Boswell on December 12, 2007, 03:26:53 PM
I was reading the Backcountry Planning Worksheet and #1 on the Regulations list is "Groundfires & Woodfires Are Prohibitied".

Sitting around a campfire is one the many reasons I love to camp.  I suppose this means camping where fire rings are present. Where in Big Bend are the campfire friendly sites?

There aren't any.

Per the park website: 'Campfires are not allowed in Big Bend National Park. In order to cook foods you may use a backpacking stove, portable fuel stove or the barbeque grills in your campsite.'

Enjoy your camping trip.

the good news is,  you don't need a campfire in Big Bend...you have Starlight fire power to enjoy....:)

Do some of the Backcountry campsites have fire rings?  That'd work fine!  If so, you think these spots would be all taken next week?

Of course there are no fire rings anywhere in the park, because "Groundfires & Woodfires Are Prohibitied".  :ranger:
As Randell said, you need to head over to BBRSP if you want to use a fire ring.

Yup, groundfires are prohibited, as you wouldn't want this to happen:

Pursuant to actions taken arising from another thread, I remind watchful eyes that the above photo is a fake and no such bonfire occurred within the boundaries of Big Bend National Park.

You can have fires when paddling Boquillas if you have a firepan.
