Hello,
I just returned from a visit to the park where I camped at Pine Canyon (PC-2 which is not too far from Glen Springs rd).  On Friday evening, just before dusk I was tired of battling the gnats and flies so I decided I'd lay down in my tent to read.  I was only in there for about 5-10 min. when I head a "panting" noise coming quickly from behind my tent and then passed by going toward Glen Springs rd.  The panting noise was loud and sounded like a person jogging would sound (inhale and exhale at least once per second).  By the time I recognized the sound and sat up to look out my tent the noise and whatever caused it was gone.  What seemed strange to me was that there was no other sound accompianied with it.  No noise from the gravel or the brush indicating that there was any ground movement.  I would suspect at the rate of speed this was going even the stealthiest animal would make some rusteling sounds---right?
I walked around to investigate (it was still pretty light out) and did not see anything unusual.
Has anyone ever experienced a sound like this?  Would an avian of any sort make this noise?  Am I going nuts?

Thanks,
Bill

could it have been a vulture? or maybe raven. their wings will sound like but usually a raven will make some squawking sound as to where a vulture wont.
