Chalk Ranch Road info?
« on: January 08, 2020, 10:52:22 AM »
Anyone driven Chalk Ranch Road in the extreme northern part of the Rosillos addition to the park?  It stretches from just immediately south of the Persimmon Gap Visitor Center in a northwest direction for 6 or 7 miles and then exits the park again, where it heads toward - natch - Chalk Ranch.  I'm wondering about the roadbed (dirt, paved, 2WD accessible, or 4WD required?). Also, in two instances along the segment I'm looking at, the road passes outside the confines of the national park and traverses private land and I'm wondering whether there are gates (locked or unlocked) along the route.   Thanks for any info....

That road leads to Chalk Draw ranch. There is a gate not too far after you leave the paved road in the park. The ranch is owned by JP Bryan and features Bee Cave Canyon containing prehistoric rock art. We can rent the main house for a measly 3K per night.

Are you subtly suggesting that all BBCers empty their change cups into one communal purse and rent the place for a BBC blowout?
Leave "quit" at the car.  Embrace the trail as your friend.  Expect to enjoy yourself, and to be amazed.

You, me, and 298 of our closest friends, and were set!

So, do I understand you correctly, that vehicular access is barred beyond 385 because of a locked gate.

OR are you saying that the road is open and paved through the park, and the locked gate is just beyond where the road exits the northern edge of the park?

Got it!   Thanks, Lance, that's exactly what I needed to know.  I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out.  I never cease to be amazed at how broad and deep is your knowledge of all things mappish in BIBE.

Exactly, Txlj! Bee Cave was what first led to me take a look at Chalk Ranch Road.  Doesn't look like visits to it are particularly easy.
