Ten miles north of Persimmon Gap off Hwy 385 a dirt road, I think called Dove Mountain Road, heads east. It eventually crosses the county line into Pecos County, where the name changes to Longfellow Road. Several miles later it intersects Hwy 90. I think it's a county road, but it does pass through ranch gates along the way. I'm wondering if anyone has driven this road end-to-end and what they encountered along the way.

I'm pretty sure this question has come up in the last few years. I searched and couldn't find the thread I was remembering did find this one.
Has anyone tried to drive through from 385 north of the park to 90 east of Sanderson? Looks like Dove Mt Road winds around that direction but not with any certainty. I read on a biker site that someone had tried going NE on a road that went through the front yard of a few ranches, and ended up at a locked gate short of 90...which would make a long trip. Any experience with this?
And what were those two fellows in the REI store discussing?
