Hen Egg Rd/S. County Road
« on: December 22, 2015, 02:04:51 PM »
Ok, so a friend of mine was out this way around Thanksgiving.
I saw a post she made on facebook that she took a jaunt out this way, but no details.
Is it scenic? Rough? both?

I'm bringing some friends out this way early March. Half of our group will be staying at Rancho Topanga, half will be in Alpine.
On the days we don't have any long days of wheeling planned, I wanted to explore some of the local backroads for maybe half day excursions.
Would this be worth it to add to the list?

On another note, I am looking at the satellite view of Google Maps and there looks to be all sorts of road/trails west of the county roads.
Are those accessible or is that all private land?
I'm trying to zoom in enough to see if there is a way to the Solitario via this direction.
I don't want to trespass, but it would be a great way to visit Tres Papalotes and Nowhere.

There is no way to get into the Solitario from the East without trespassing. Further, you can't go further North along South County Rd that Salt Grass Draw without trespassing. You can make a loop out of South County to Salt Grass Draw to Sawmill, but there are some VERY cloistered and heavily armed landowners along the route that don't appreciate interlopers. Travel at your own risk and do not believe everything your GPS/ Google Maps might tell you.

That's good to know, thank you.
I'll go back and look at my maps to make sure I don't hit those areas.

So am I to infer that if myself and some friends are driving down the road, enjoying the scenery, landowners are going to start firing on us?

What if I have an invitation to visit someone on their property?

I dont see how yu could infer that mearly driving down a county road would caus that. If you strat walking around on private property, i'm sure you will be contacted and told to leave. trespasing is not welcome
