Mariscal Mine Map and Key
« on: March 26, 2006, 01:10:55 PM »
I found this some time ago (cannot recall the webpage).  It is a map and key of the Mariscal Mine.  It shows the buildings, etc and identifies what they were used for.

Enjoy,

BBH

Nice to see this here since I think Mariscal Mine is such a neat place to visit.  I don't know what webpage this is from, but it was also in a brochure that the ranger at Rio Grande Village gave us before we set off to the mine.

I've always thought it would be "neat" if someone would take existing photographs and "rebuild through the magic of computers" the mine to what it looked like in it's hayday.

Good timing on that post BBH.  I am headed down there Friday and Mariscal is on my tentative list of stops.  It has been 12-15 years since I last visited Mariscal Mine.

I am taking my 22 year old daughter for her first visit.  She has been researching the area through this site and others and should be sending me a list of places she wants to see sometime today.

Thanks for the info and thanks to all of the people who post here and keep this group interesting.

Glad the timing was good :D

I have always wanted to visit the mine, but our trips are always in the summer due to our son's schedule.  I have heard it is extremely hot along the river during the summer months, so we have not made it there yet.  Will someday, however.

Please post a trip report and plenty of pictures for us to enjoy!

I will definitely do that.  David might get unhappy if I post all the pictures I take, but I will be glad to share by email.  If I get to Mariscal, I will do my best to either scratch your itch or make it worse.

A neighbor of mine was down there last weekend on a motorcycle trip and tells me the River Road is in excellent shape.  I gave up on 4WD vehicles several years back, but my Toyota Tundra should make it just fine unless there is some rain before I get there.

I have crossed the River Road at least a dozen times over the years and only used 4WD one time to pull some workers out of a mudhole down by the gauging station.

Why not set up a photo site at photobucket.com or kodakgallery.com or one of many other free sites, then just post a link to the album here?  That way you don't overload David's server and will have a a place to store your pics as a backup as well.

yes, this is a good idea to use the gallery areas for picture posts. i'm in the works of creating a new website that you all can post galleries rather than just image hosting.....probabl y in the next month or two :)

Bunches of sites that host photo galleries for free, and free is good.  A freind of mine, she uses Shutterfly.  I just got started with Ofoto which become Kodakgallery, and have been reluctant to change to anything else as I have so many albums there.  Of course, I still have my originals on the home computer.    Kodak has teemed up with Walgreens or CVS, not sure which, to offer almost instant printing, cheap price, etc.  Overall, I've been mostly pleased with Kodakgallery.  I have one issue in that for some reason my MS IE won't work on Kodakgallery, so I have to use Netscape.  Kodakgallery allows "freinds" to easy share galleries back and forth, has an address book, and does not require viewers to become members.

I have not used it but there is an MSM Big Bend page and gallery.  Would this be best to use since it is going to attract BIBE people?

Here is a link to the Library of Congress which has several drawings and photos of the mine. The drawings explain the mine history and how it worked.
