Pinto Canyon Road Condition?
« on: December 27, 2012, 06:12:57 AM »
Has anyone driven the Pinto Canyon Road recently?  Wondering as to condition and if suitable driving for an Escape or Explorer as we are considering the drive as part of our Big Bend trip this weekend.  Forecast for Alpine/Big Bend is for chance of rain/snow so may want a Plan B.

Thanks.  J

An exploder would have no problem with Pine canyon.  One of the most beautiful  times we had was when it snowed and we drove up to the trailhead and walked around.  Nothing like snow hanging off Ocotillo.  Consider yourself lucky if you do get to see snow up there.  Our pictures where from a while ago and were on real film, so we are unable to post them.

I'm guessing you are asking about Pine canyon.  Never heard of a pinto canyon, but I may have been wrong once before too.  Just ask Cookie....

Pinto Canyon road runs from Riudosa to Marfa and part of it (the southern part) is unpaved.  I'm also curious about the road conditions because I'd like to drive it also , in a 2 wheel drive pickup. Anybody been on it lately ?

To Tx Sweet Lady - I have driven the Casa Piedra road , although its been about a year ago , and it was definately do-able in either of your vehicles.

You might give Chinati Hotsprings a call, or better yet drop by for a soak on your way through.

The camp hostess said it was in poor condition when we were there in March of 2010, but that has been nearly 3 years ago.
