One of my neighbors is the Great-great grandaughter of Ed Froboese who's freighting business is described in the book below.

Attached is a link to a map of the route from San Antonio to Chihuahua, Mx. These guys went via the forts along the way. I haven't read the book yet, but I'm going to try to get a copy
