I have not read this book, it's brand new.
Micheal Powell and Shirley Powell are well known authorities on the Flora of West Texas, and very nice people.
And BRIT is as good as it gets when it comes to Texas flora research. Just ordered this book, looking forward to getting it. Thanks for the heads-up, Jim!
When and where they will signing the new book
Hi all -
Mike Powell, botanist extraordinaire, long time SR professor, head of the SR herbarium and prolific author of many, many books about the native plants of the Trans-Pecos - has a new book out: Flowering Plants of Trans-Pecos Texas and adjacent areas. The text is by Dr. Powell and Richard Worthington, and the photographs by Mike's wife and botanical partner, Shirley Powell. This is a tome! You need to see it and probably buy it!
Mike and Shirley Powell will be at Front Street Books in Alpine at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16 (he'll also be at CDRI the evening before). The Big Bend chapter of NPSOT was part of the financing of this book AND we began and continue to financially support the Mike Powell Scholarship for biology students at SR. Dr. Powell is a huge inspiration to all of us who love native plants.
Please plan to be there, not only to meet the Powells but to join in the book signing - you can bring your personal copies of others of his books (or buy them at FSB that evening) for his autograph.
Look forward to seeing you at this event. There will be light refreshments, and you'll see everyone you know! Please join us!
