Anyone have a guestimate on occupancy at the Chisos Basin Campground for this  week. I am going to BiBe  Tuesday through Sunday.  I have been looking at the PG, PC, KB GH and CS primitive campsites for a base camp.  I tried calling the 877 .gov number but just was just left hanging  on computerized hold.
I notice that there are only a few camper / hikers in the  park.  (around 9 or 10)  Do you feel this occupancy level would be proportional to the campground areas this time of year...I would consider camping in the park if its not to full... I was kind of targeting 59 or 60... plus a couple of others that look like they have  a little privacy...any thoughts on this would be appreciated...

The park is not likely to be crowded and you shouldn't have any problems getting a Chisos Basin site.  You can reserve a site on line and even if all the reservable sites are taken, there are always a significant number that are left on a first come, first served basis.

As for primitive sites in the back country, I personally don't have any real preferences.   If you're going to be there just a few days, I would try to get one just off the main road such as Paint Gap, or maybe down Dodson Spring Road, like Rice Tank or one of the Pine Canyon sites.
Wake me when it's time to go.

I would have to agree that it is unlikely to be crowded at all. School is back in session, and it's an in-between time of year. Great time to go between now and Thanksgiving.

Thanks to all..... I'll get a feel from the rangers on CBC occupancy when I'm checking in with them. I would drive the loops first but after being on the road for 8 hours, I doubt if I would pass up Panther  Junction station and do that..  I'm with yall, bet there's lots of CBC spots available... I'll still have my primitive list prioritized just in case....again,,,thanks for the sharing....

We just left #43 this afternoon. The campground was 1/2 or a bit more full. There were plenty of empty sites.
