Basin campground - best sites?
« on: August 25, 2014, 09:05:31 AM »
Looks like there is some availability for some sites around Thanksgiving.  Can anyone comment on which sites are good ones from the list below?  I'd like one that has a little distance from other sites, is not right on the main road, and has some shade if possible.  Being close to the bathroom is also nice.  I'm thinking #34 since it's close to the bathroom but looking at Google Earth, I don't think that site has a covered table.  Do some sites not have them? Thanks!

sites: 22, 27, 34, 34, 40, 41, 53, 55

Edit:  Forgot to mention we'll be in a small tent.

I can't speak to these sites in particular but I do know that some of the sites (maybe a fourth of them) do not have cover.
Wake me when it's time to go.

#40 would be my choice.  Good views, on the outside of the loop, covered table.

Probably can tell which ones have shelter by Google Earth.

Probably can tell which ones have shelter by Google Earth.
Jim's old campground page had descriptions of each site, including what kind of shelter each one had. We could use a volunteer to update the site numbers (start with this list).

Great photos, but their numbering hasn't been updated.

Perfect, thanks Richard.  Campsite is now reserved.  Looking forward to the trip!

Edit:  Just noticed some of the reservable sites are not on that map, like #34 and #40.  Where are they on the pic above??

Oops, looks like I not only goofed up a couple of sites, but left some off. I've updated it so hopefully it's a bit more accurate. :icon_redface: We could still use some boots on the ground to confirm I got them right...

They're on the image I see... unless RichardM already fixed the image...

Moderator Note; Yup, I fixed it. I had to force the page to reload in order to see it, however.

Great work Richard!  Looks like 21, 40 and 47 are all reservable and have shelters and are on the outside/more secluded.  30 is non-reservable without a shelter but looks to have good shade and privacy.
temperatures exceed 100 degrees F
minimum 1 gallon water per person/day
no shade, no water
