Basin CG in 21 ft trailer?
« on: February 15, 2015, 07:38:42 AM »
40 years of camping in BBNP and finally breaking down and getting a travel trailer. With the bears reestablished and other trips to Colorado and Yellowstone region planned, we are shopping for a hard sided trailer, but finding a lack of 20 ft or less trailers that will fit our needs. Have found a few 21 ft that work.

Is 21 ft close enough to 20 ft to make the turns without getting ourselves in trouble or should we keep looking if we want to camp in the Basin again?

For years I had no problem camping in the basin with my 26' trailer.  Paying close attention, I was even able to stay in my lane at the hairpin turns going up Green Gulch.  The NPS has taken over some of the best trailer sites for use as campground host sites, however.  But there are still some good trailer sites.  Unfortunately, the way they have made some of the campground roads one-way now, you'll be facing the wrong direction if you want to use the dump station (almost all trailers have the dump connection on the driver's side).  I don't know why they did that.

They were working on the dump station in December. It looked like they might build a lane on the right so you could drive on the outside of the little island where the station is.

Thanks for the info. With school age kids we camp mostly in the summer and I'd hate to lose the oasis of comparative coolness of the Basin as a camping spot.
