Did you check at the Big Bend Motor Inn (aka Big Bend Resort & Adventures)? Their showers are coin-op and have always been open to the public.
Oh, no, it was an RV park. I thought it might be the other one, but I didn't see it until we drove out there again the next day to go to the state ranch.

I guess we should have looked harder, but the ranger at the station on the way just said "RV park", and the guy there didn't suggest an alternative, so we turned back. Oh well, live and learn. The RGV ones weren't too bad, but I'd imagine they get pretty thrashed during the peak season...

All in all, it was a great trip, and we did enough to leave satisfied, but left enough to want to come back for more. As a Fort Davis local (by way of Dallas) told us at Santa Elena Canyon trail: "we are hooked"  :willynilly:
