Might be able to answer questions, although so many here know so much.  I might be able to answer questions about current status, though.

Are you a volunteer or host in the campground?

Changed my plans and decided I needed to be closer to shower facilities so I gave up Chisos Basin and booked site 27 in the RGV Campground. How is that site?? Walking distance to the showers at the store?? Can't wait for February to get here.

I'm sure this site will be fine.  Based on the picture, it at least is not out in the large open area.  And, yes, you can walk to both the store and the showers (and the laundromat) from there.

If for some reason or other you decide you'd rather be somewhere else, you shouldn't have much trouble moving to a more desirable spot.

While you can certainly walk to the showers from the campground, most people choose to drive. Depending on your site location, the distance is between .3 and .5 miles to the showers.

Also, pack some warm clothes for RGV, the cold air in the park sinks to the river level overnight and you can experience some chilly nights.

Yeah, we usually don't ever shower until we get home (and the wife sends me straight there!)  :icon_lol:

I really wasn't too worried about roughing it when I planned this trip because I was going alone, but now I have a friend going and I really don't think she is gonna wanna bit dirty for that long.

Another question, I am trying to get away for a bit but I am taking an online class that I will need to have wifi access for. What if the wifi coverage like at the RGV campsite and if it is not good where is the closest spot for free wifi?
Thanks for all the help.

From the park website:

WiFi—available at the Chisos Mountain Lodge and the Rio Grande Village Store. There are no public-use computer terminals in the park.

What is the wifi coverage like at the RGV campsite...

We got a decent signal there (at the store) - probably enough to connect and get updates, but may take a while if you have to upload large files.

As Robert quoted the park website, the Basin has wifi as well - probably strongest around the store/restaurant, but we uploaded a picture from an iPad from the parking lot too...

You'll get zero wifi at the campsite.  You will get good wifi at the Rio Grande Village store, same place as the showers.
