Wow. Granted, those are the slow months. But, still, that'll mean a LOT more showers taking place to the west of the park.

The showers are much better to the west. RGV has pretty crappy showers.

Is the closed campground the NPS operated Rio Grand Village Campground or the concessionaire full hookup Rio Grand Village RV campground (located in the store parking lot?)

I'd call the Rio Grande Village Store @ 432-477-2293.  One of the concession employees should know the answer, since they handle the RV slots. I would guess that since the RV area is on the opposite side of the Store from the far away Campground, that the repairs may likely be isolated from the Store and RV lot. Let us know what you learn :)

Found some clarification on Facebook:

"The Rio Grande Village Campground will be closed May 22- September 1, 2017 in order to conduct deferred maintenance, including the water and waste water system in the Rio Grande Village area. The Rio Grande Village store, laundry, and showers, and full hookup sites may also be effected during periods of this closure. "

Thank goodness those sites won't be "affected" so we should be good to go.

To the NPS' many other problems*, homonym abuse now bubbles up.

*http://www.hcn.org/articles/will-the-trump-administration-continue-progress-on-yellowstone-sexual-harassment/#discussion , from where this gem is found:

"Jeff Ruch, executive director of Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility, thinks sexual harassment is a symptom of a larger dysfunction at national parks. “And that is that the agency has no accountability,” he said."

They also don't have any proofreaders. Or, maybe the proofreaders are the problem? So many issues, so few who are concerned about it inside the agency. Quality control is nil.  :banghead:

Well, on this particular issue, yep that's all I've got ... at the moment.

However, words matter, even the grammatical errors. As do actions.

The public face of the NPS is a carefully constructed and maintained facade of polish and professionalism.

When the curtain is pulled aside, it's very ugly inside, as all these recent developments abundantly illustrate.

Rather than being the outlier of an occasional bad employee (which can be found in any organization), a culture of abuse, privilege and immunity is deeply ingrained in the agency and directly is tied to that lack of accountability cited by Ruch.

From the Park Facebook page:

Rio Grande Village Campground will be open for Memorial Day! The contractor for the water repair work has been delayed, resulting in the unexpected relief of the campground being available for the busy holiday weekend. Work is set to begin May 30th now in Rio Grande Village. Camping, showers, and all facilities at Rio Grande Village will be available for the Memorial Day weekend.
temperatures exceed 100 degrees F
minimum 1 gallon water per person/day
no shade, no water
