That's a perspective I had not thought of. But I still wonder how they know to go get someone? Nevertheless, if someone bails at Homer Wilson and hitches a ride the LE rangers wouldn't know about it.

They know because they always are watching you  :willynilly:

(unstated backstory)

I know about bailing at the end of Juniper from experience.

My first OML ended in failure at that point when by buddy "blew a tire" there.  I had to hike out to get him help.  That's when I enjoyed a nice long conversation with a LE ranger.

Leave "quit" at the car.  Embrace the trail as your friend.  Expect to enjoy yourself, and to be amazed.
