outer mountain loop distance
« on: January 07, 2008, 12:45:10 PM »
i've read a few differing distances given for the length of the oml (pinnacles-boot canyon-juniper canyon-dodson-blue creek-laguna meadows.)  even the nps website is a bit vague.

does anyone have a real conviction on this?

Yes, a burning conviction never to hike that series of trails in consecutive order again.

Depends on how you do it. The Dodson Trail is 10 miles. Juniper Canyon Trail is 6.2 and Blue Creek is 5.5. So that's 21.7 miles. The shortest path between them is to take the Colima Trail, but where's the fun in that? The shortcut also assumes you started the OML somewhere other than the Basin.

I believe my trip's final mileage was 36.7, which included two visits to the South Rim, and one trek around the East Rim, neither of which is part of the OML proper.

It's not the miles that kill you, it's the elevation.

Sorry, I just had to say it. That is all.

It's not the miles that kill you, it's the elevation.

In a place where 'water runs uphill', everything is uphill both ways. :rolling:

But the net elevation gain is 0!  :eusa_dance:
