Thought I'd put in a good word for an upcoming seminar at the park.
The BB Natural History Association is puting on their annual "Pioner Reunion" on Saturday Feb 4th, 10AM, at PJ. I've been to several, and it's always interesting to hear the oldtimers talk about their experiences back when the park was relatively new.
I remember one guy talking about when as a kid he lived in the old house at the Hot Springs! And Homer Wilson's daughter, who lived at the base of the window near Oak Springs, talked about their house they bought from Sears Roebuck and had shipped by rail and then delivered to the park (by wagon). One time someone else talked about working at a little candelia processing operation near La Linda... and on and on. Very very interesting tales straight from the horses' mouths.
I was telling my Mom's neighbor here in Austin about the park last year, and he told me he used to live at Government Springs as a kid (there used to be a house there) when his Dad worked for the maintenance department in the park. Unbelievable. He said he wouldn't mind talking at one of the reunions.
In any event, a link to the seminar programs are at http://www.bigbendbookstore.org/2005bbsch.html .
That was me that posted about Pioneer Reunion... don't know why "Guest" showed up... (I need to keep my Avatar rating up, so I'm posting again).
... and there are door prizes. I won the Hiking BBNP by Laurence Parent book one year! Really a good guide book.
