FIX OUR PARKS
« on: October 24, 2006, 01:31:17 PM »
Received an email today from the NPCA - National Parks Conservation Association that I thought I'd pass along.

Quote
Dear Shane,

Fix Our Parks By Their 100th Birthday

Sign the Fix Our Parks Pledge!

The National Park System will celebrate its 100th birthday in just ten years. This should be a reason to celebrate. Unfortunately, America's beloved national parks are in crisis--underfunding, traffic congestion, and pollution are all taking their toll.

That's why the National Parks Conservation Association is launching a major campaign to fix our national parks by their 100th birthday.

Click here to sign the Fix Our Parks Pledge, pledging to take action to support NPCA's campaign to restore and protect our national parks.

Our first goal: 50,000 signatures on the Fix Our Parks Pledge. That's 50,000 Americans pledging to help us fix our national parks!

NPCA's campaign is anchored by an ambitious new parks restoration and protection plan: 5 Ways America Can Fix Our National Parks. This plan, released today, highlights key steps America's political leaders need to take to make sure our parks are in great shape by 2016.

Help make this plan for the parks a reality. By signing the Fix Our Parks Pledge, you'll commit to taking actions like these:

Encouraging political leaders to support greater protections for our national parks.

Visiting national parks in your area or around the country more regularly.
Reducing your own pollution impacts on national parks.
Getting involved with local organizations to protect or clean up parks.
And more...

If you're like me, you want to see legendary parks thrive. Yellowstone, Yosemite, Great Smoky Mountains, and Gettysburg--NPCA's campaign will be working to restore these places to their former glory. The key is your involvement.

Help kick off our campaign--sign the Fix Our Parks Pledge. Promise to take simple personal and political actions needed to restore and protect America's national parks.

Why is it important to sign our pledge? Because as NPCA gears up to implement our new campaign to restore America's national parks, we will be taking our plan to political leaders, parks managers, and the media. Having 50,000 Fix Our Parks Pledge signers will demonstrate that we have a strong mandate from the public.

National parks aren't just for you and me, but for future generations--our children and grandchildren. We will be working to implement our plan to make sure that on the National Park Service's 100th birthday, our parks are restored, reinvigorated, and ready to enrich the lives of generations to come. Please join us!

Thank you,
Thomas C. Kiernan
President
