Big Bend Virtual Geology Field Trips
« on: May 04, 2015, 08:13:28 PM »
Now that the new USGS map is available, i am in the process of upgrading the field trips on prism-redfern.org website. In particular, the field trip to Mesa de Anguila had several errors due to the delay between the time the trip was undertaken and the time it was written up. I think i have successfully corrected those errors. I still think Mesa de Anguila is one of the best features in the park.

I have just added another field trip for those who might be interested. It covers the southern Strawhouse Trail. Featured are the Bend monocline and a Laramide thrust fault. Also an awesome calcite vein.

Yet another addition to the virtual geology field trips for those so interested. This one covers some of the geology of lower Tornillo Creek. This is where I found an abandoned backpack. (prism-redfern.org)

Really interesting stuff.

Leave "quit" at the car.  Embrace the trail as your friend.  Expect to enjoy yourself, and to be amazed.

The new USGS work in Big Bend has been very helpful. I have updated the South Rim trip and have added Santa Elena Canyon: http://prism-redfern.org/
