Uncredited as in "We don't care who shot the photo, as long as it's theirs, and we won't bore readers with details like their name?"  Bucks wouldn't be why I entered, it would be the glory.  :icon_wink:

Added to post

In all fairness wasn't going to enter anyway.  Don't do people. They tend to get in the way of a great photo sometimes. :icon_wink:

It's just a fair warning. Doing it for "the glory" is just fine if that suits you. And VBB is operated by the Brewster County Tourism Council, so in effect this is helping promote the area and tourism.

At the very least, VBB could state that your name will be credited alongside your photograph if used.

Don't get me wrong, think the concept of the contest is a good thing.  Generating funds by more visitors to better care for and protect the park is worthwhile.

the big picture

Looks like any time you post a picture here, it shows up there. What's up with that, Mr. VBB?

Hmmm. Trying to decide if I'm comfortable with that.  Anyone on that link would or could have no qualms stealing photos if they never see stated warnings about photographers rights that they see when entering the chat.  People with no morals will do it anyway, but now they can say "I didn't know."

Am I off base here?  Rethinking about the photos I "was" going to share here in the next few days.

Since visitbigbend.com is unscrupulously loading messages and images posted here on bigbendchat to their site, we now have a new Members Only Photos board. Anyone not wishing to have their photos automatically appear on visitbigbend.com should avoid posting them in this board and instead use the new one.

A followup: the webpage that visitbigbend.com is publishing is using the RSS feed provided by our site. The purpose of VBB's page is to generate interest in Big Bend and BigBendChat.

I was thinking the same thing about VBB......look at how they managed to single handily change all the pictures, in my home. BBC.... :pissed: (I was looking for another avatar, but i could not find it...the finger).
Stay thirsty, my friends.

ok, ok,  ha ha.

We are not "stealing" or "unscrupulously loading messages and images posted here on bigbendchat"

We are simple broadcasting the RSS feeds from this forum, and each page includes links back to the forum. None of this material is stored on our servers, it is reading it directly from bigbendchat.com.

I am sure we are not the only ones broadcasting the free, open RSS feed of the forum discussions.  There is nothing unethical or unscrupulous about it.

And by the way, the "Members Only Photos" doesn't prevent people from accessing the RSS feed:
feed:http://www.bigbendchat.com/portal/forum/index.php?type=rss;action=.xml

NOW, getting back to the contest, which is the original topic of this discussion, we do credit the author, cause you can't submit to the Flickr Big Bend Photo Contest, unless you have a Flickr username.  The line that we have the right to redistribute you photo is so that we may post it showing the winners of the contest.  We, in no way, transfer the copyright over to us.  We just have permission to post your photograph as the winning photo.

I suggest you change your rules to include a statement to the effect of: All copyrights to photographs remain with the photographer; any republication by us is purely to showcase the contest and its winners.
