Brilliant use of technology, BK!  I enjoyed it enormously and definitely felt like I was right there with you. Wish I could master this. Will I? Probably not. I'm too old, too crotchety, too lazy, and too focused on my own experience. But I'm darn sure glad you've mastered this. Thanks for the ride. Made my afternoon.  I was moved to tears by this. You could draw at least two conclusions from this: 1) I'm a weeper, 2) you're a genius. I'm okay with both.

BTW - some of my favorite music. :great:

If folks can't find their way to Randell's Overlook using this tutorial, they have no business trying.  ;)

It is eeirly realistic even to me, and I was there.

Very nice to see a hike someplace other than the OML.

Cool, I liked it. Especially like the way it shows where you stopped, went one direction, reversed direction and went another as if a drone was following along.  Nice touch with Chris Rea's "Texas".

You could draw at least two conclusions from this: 1) I'm a weeper, 2) you're a genius. I'm okay with both.
I think we already knew both of these things.

Not to be confused with the Boquillas Canyon Overlook (https://goo.gl/maps/Jzw6CdYADST2) (which is much easier to get to ;))

Sorry for the confusion.

Boquillas Canyon Overlook - on the Park maps is a parking area near the end of the Boquillas Canyon Road - easy for tourons

Boquillas Canyon Overlook in my video =  Randell's - much harder to get too, but spectacular. The parking area....not so much.

Awesome video!  My 14 year old saw this and wants me to take him.  It'll have to wait until next winter, but it'll give us something to look forward to.

Very creative badknees, really enjoyed it. Looks like you left the main trail earlier than we did and took a wider berth around the pouroff - think I'll go your way next time (and the staying high out of the brush part too)

Thanks Alan. They say the shortest distance between 2 points is a straight line. Maybe so, but not always the best route in BB.

Don't know about shortest, but I can almost guarantee the sharpest distance between 2 points in BB is a straight line.

And this format you've put together REALLY shows it....in ways that a simple trip report, even with photos, wouldn't. And the inclusion of text and photos in your format highlights the important points and deepens the experience. This is definitely a new level of trip report. Sadly, I can't imagine myself pulling this off. If I ever do, you'll know it before you see it because you'll feel the earth move under your feet when I master this technology.

The first time I watched the video I though the little arrow was a guy wearing a cape running really fast down the trail - i.e. Batman.  I now realize it is just an arrow, but I can't stop seeing it as Batman.  You should add a little dust cloud behind the arrow.

I donít move fast enough to raise a dust cloud!

Enjoyed that Patty Spring trek.  When my children and I hiked out to Ward Springs a few years ago, I kept looking over there and thinking that would be a fun place to explore.

Thanks for Pink Floyd. Hadn't heard that in a few years  :afro:

Love these!  Really gives a new perspective on the hike, the ups and downs and how the terrain dictates the path.  Like to see an OML done like this.

Terrific! Now for your next assignment, put a video camera on a drone and have the drone follow you around!

Correction,  a 360 video camera on a drone.

Correction,  a 360 video camera on a drone.
But since drones are verboten, you could suspend one from a helium balloon. :icon_lol: Or just use a rig like they do for Google Street View trekking.
