Cacti & the Milky Way
« on: May 03, 2015, 06:22:14 PM »
I just returned from my first trip to BIBE in almost four years.  I love Big Bend but vowed in 2011 not to return until the drought conditions abated.  I was fortunate to time the trip with a new moon for astrophotography that coincided with one of the best cactus/wildflower blooms in years.  Here are a few of my shots from the trip;

Bluebonnets south of Persimmon Gap

The Giant Dagger Yuccas were amazing at Dagger Flats

Strawberry Pitaya a.k.a. Echinocereus Stramineus

Desert view looking toward the Chisos

I experimented for the first time with shooting the Milky Way.  This image from Study Butte

Another Milky Way shot from Terlingua...

Santa Elena Canyon

Ocotillo and the Chisos

Texas Rainbow cactus (Echinocereus Dasyacanthus)

Wow does not say it well, but Wow! Those are some awesome shots, and I love the Desert view of the cactus back towards the Chisos. I have yet to be in Big Bend during a new moon and look forward to the day, especially after seeing these photos. Great Job!
