Ok...  DOM rock was a little too easy...  It took billh all of 23 minutes to ID the spot...  And RichardM knew all about the original DOM rock...  This one is a little tougher...  I still expect someone to know this place...

San Carlos?

Is it one of the canyons outside of San Carlos, Mexico?

I went there on a day trip in the fall of 1991.  When we crossed over to Paso Lajitas in the rowboat, the river was in flood, at about 15'. It made for an interesting crossing!

Nice job Joe...  The Vaqueros gave it away...  That is San Carlos canyon just outside the Mexican town of  San Carlos...  I was there back in the old days when the border was open...  We took moutain bikes across by boat at Paso Lajitas and rode the 20 or so uphill miles to the town of San Carlos...  San Carlos is a sizeable town...  We stayed at La Gloria, a really neat place with really goood food...  Spent a whole day hiking down the caynon...  Beautiful place...

Thanks, Oilcan.  You're right, the vaqueros gave me the clue I needed.  I'd like to go back and stay at La Gloria - here's a link:
