My Desktop Background Right Now
« on: January 30, 2016, 02:57:51 PM »

Making plans now on my 1st trip back sine April 2012.  It's been too long.  I'm bringing down my mentor and he will be a newbie to the Bend.    Mainly coming during the last part of April for the northern bird migration.  I'm gotten more interested in birds lately after getting a little longer lens.

His health won't allow any backpacking, but I plan to spend a few days in the Chisos shooting birds while he stays in the basin.
Having decent gear is nice, but wildlife photography is knowing your subject and getting lucky, and I love getting lucky.

That's a great bw photo! BTW, I've just visisted your webiste and had a look at some of your wildlife photos -  :eusa_clap:

Have you already checked http://www.nps.gov/bibe/planyourvisit/birding.htm and http://www.nps.gov/bibe/learn/nature/birds.htm for some basic info? Lots of interesting info on hummers can be found here: http://westtexashummingbirds.com/. The Christmas Moutain Oasis also is a great place for birders (you should contact the owner, Carolyn Ohl to obtain permission for a visit (cmoasis.blogspot). Needless to say, BBC offers tons of useful info on birding.

Anyway, I'm confident you will enjoy your stay & hope you'll return with many nice pics to share!

Thanks for the links.  I just finished A Field Guide to Birds of the Big Bend (Texas Field Guide Series) by Roland Wauer.  It's a great book for locations to find species and what time of year to look.

Thanks!  Otters are one of my favorite critters to shoot.   My handle is OKRiverOtter on some sites.  ;)

Awesome shots! And I learned there are river otters in Oklahoma. I've always wanted to see some in the wild.
