Recently I came across some pictures from the first trip my wife and I took out to Big Bend.  A large hurricane had just pummeled Cabo San Lucas, and the remnants of that storm were moving across the big bend region.  This brought out a lot of green in the park, as well as raising the Rio Grande over its banks.

FM 170, my absolute favorite drive!  Notice how high the Rio Grande is.

A few pics from Mule Ears trail/spring.  Yes, I am the moron in the black shirt, hiking in mid 90s heat in the desert.

Crossing to Boquillas was an adventure due to the roaring river.  The regular landing where you board the ferry was underwater, so we ended up standing in ankle deep mud in some reeds.  The current was so strong that the ferry operators were carrying their boat up a ways on the Mexico side before launching.  Then they would furiously paddle across the river as the current pulled them downstream towards us.

Look at those two.  So carefree.  So child free. What a difference a couple of years can make.

Boquillas canyon was especially green.  And HUMID.  I'm from Louisiana, but I'm still not used to the kind of humidity we experienced in that canyon.

Wow. that is a LOT of water. But it looks like you two had a blast. Always nice to take a trip down memory lane, pre-kids.  ;)  On the other hand, some of my very best backpacking trips have been with my kids. You get to see it all again, but through their eyes.
