Hi Chisos_Muse!
Thanks for posting those pictures!  What a nice New Year's Eve treat!  The one of Casa Grande with the snow on it is awesome.  How is the driving into the Basin when it is like that?

And, Happy New Year to y'all!

They had the snow plows out on the road most of the day.  It wasn't too bad.  The ground temp was above freezing.

Great pics, Jon!!

Happy New Year!

Hi BBH!
Happy New Year to you too......they put sand on the road, and if it's too icy or treacherous, they'll close it.

Those are really neat pics, Muse.  I've always wanted to be there in a snowfall, but with a hot shower and nice warm room at the Lodge waiting when I got back from taking pictures!

It appears the cold weather was a distant memory from looking at your picture at the Ernst Tinaja trailhead - short sleeve weather.

You see,you guys have made a lifelong THING(dont know what else to call it) a goal in my life. In 1979 I was in the Sea of Japan & saw snow at sea. My grandmother,Ruth who was dying of lymphoma at the time, said something about seeing snow at sea. I was baffled at her infatuation about this. Later I became bewildered. I didnt know what to think. She said something before she died about this & I kinda blew it off. But my Dad(her son) had said he always wanted to go to BIG BEND but died before he had the chance. So I took the opportunity in 2003 February to go to the desert to see if I could see snow in the desert. That would mean I had seen snow in the desert & at sea. Now, how many of you have seen that? I am saying,BOTH sea & desert! I am still working on the desert thing but I am 51 & still hoping!!!!! Any hope for the near future for snow in the desert? I will be there with BELLS ON,big time!

In my youth I worked at a hotel on the beach in Ocean City, NJ. There was a great snowstorm that winter and I watched from the 15th floor of the hotel as the snow fell into the choppy Atlantic. Not exactly "at sea", but an amazing and beautiful sight nevertheless.

On a Thanksgiving 2005 trip to Big Bend, my wife and I watched the snow fall in the Basin and Green Gulch. Absolutely surrealistic.
