I too thought it may be a hummingbird.  How about a King Fisher?
:high5:

There are 3 Kingfishers possible in Big Bend.
This picture was taken in late November.

1 is fairly common in fall, 1 has never been recorded in fall, and 1 is rare in fall.

You are almost there! Which one is it?

I would say the green kingfisher...

I didn't think of them as being as small as it appeared in the pic... but perhaps I was misjudging the scale....

YOU ARE CORRECT :high5: :eusa_clap:

They are quite small, the picture was taken a a bit of a distance, but the bird is about the size of a robin. Quite a bit smaller than the more common Belted Kingfisher that most people have seen.

Where did you find the little guy?
He was in the reeds on the NE corner of the Gambusia pond. He was working the pond.

I guess the little guy doesn't read the BIBE web page.

I used to watch an osprey deplete a neighbor's Koi pond all the time. Kind of funny watching him fly off with a big orange goldfish wrapped in talons!!

My neighbor was not amused.
