I don't think so, if you are refering to the Sawtooth mountains of Idaho!

I guess by the size of that pic that was hard not to miss! Your good vince, but not at Ft. Davis...but getting warm.

Another hint: Mentioned in the final chapters of "Tenderfoot Teacher", the book written by the former BBNP school teacher. She took some friends there before she left the school for good. (a must read for the avid Big Bender!)

Vince, feeling a mite cool, 'cause your cold, man! But I failed to tell you, left out quite by accident of course  that it IS near Ft. Davis, so close, but far away, if you don't give me the correct geographic name of the place!

Okay, it's the Lawrence E. Woods roadside park, AKA the Madera Canyon Picnic Area.

Good job Presidio.  Its been at least 25 years since I did the Davis Mtns Loop but I still stand by the guess that Sawtooth Mtn looms over the Roadside Park in the picture.  Cin-dee please keep the pictures coming.  They are jewels.

You are correct. But not for Cin-dee's photo. There actually are 2 roadside parks. The one you speak of is farther west and is indeed below Sawtooth Mtn.

Cin-dee's is on Hwy 118. Yours is on Hwy 166.

There were actually three roadside parks on the scenic loop.  The Rockpile (the one below Sawtooth) was closed because of vandalism.  We discussed the Kit Carson carving and the pictographs there some time ago here. I think that's where Cin-dee's photo was taken.

The Madera Canyon roadside park, now officially known as the Lawrence E. Wood Rest Area, doesn't have any rock formations like that shown in her photo.

It could be the Point of Rocks, though, which is the one on HWY 166, unless it was taken at one of the rest areas between Balmorhea and Fort Davis.

I suspect you are correct. I was working off fuzzy memory as I haven't been by there in way too many years, a fact made apparent by my 'facts'.
