the "rockpile" by the Sawtooth Mountains?!?
Looking at the peeling granite, is it somewhere near Ft. Davis?Or is it Ft. Davis?
Got to be the roadside park on the Davis Mountains loop.
How about in the Grapevine Hills?
"roadside park" :?: Man, I need a NAME, specifics are important, you KNOW that, you west Texas man! In fact so important a man left his name there, a famous man...who is he?
Good job Presidio. Its been at least 25 years since I did the Davis Mtns Loop but I still stand by the guess that Sawtooth Mtn looms over the Roadside Park in the picture. Cin-dee please keep the pictures coming. They are jewels.
There were actually three roadside parks on the scenic loop. The Rockpile (the one below Sawtooth) was closed because of vandalism. We discussed the Kit Carson carving and the pictographs there some time ago here. I think that's where Cin-dee's photo was taken. The Madera Canyon roadside park, now officially known as the Lawrence E. Wood Rest Area, doesn't have any rock formations like that shown in her photo. It could be the Point of Rocks, though, which is the one on HWY 166, unless it was taken at one of the rest areas between Balmorhea and Fort Davis.
