Title: Wildlife Photos - Please share yours too!
Post by: roadjunkie on April 26, 2017, 04:50:03 PM
I don't have many because I didn't see a lot while there.  I did happen to catch 8 or 10 Aoudad sheep behind the motel on Indian Head Road.

Please share what you have.

I did get some pics of mule deer but they're all facing away from me so I haven't posted any.  I also got some black-tailed jackrabbits but low light and photos are so-so.  This guy was standing right on the edge of the road down my Santa Elena Canyon.  It was getting dark and I had to set my ISO around 2000 to get a decent shot.  Not a great shot but cool to see this old bull standing there about 20 feet away just looking at me.

It's good to know that someone is seeing some.  My trip was kind of dry.

TXLJ,

Was the horned toad in BiBE?  One of the things at the top of my bucket list is to show my kids a horned toad.

As I child I played with them all the time at my grandparents shop in Sanderson.

All those shots are just north of the park near Hen Egg.

Nice photos, Willy.  The diamondback is at the top of my list with cougar and bear following.

Thanks for sharing, bad knees.  The bear shot is priceless.  What kind of deer is that?  He looks awful small to be a muley.

Can anyone help me identify this butterfly that I photographed in Big Bend last week?  Thanks.

HMOD,  I'm not 100%, but I think that is a Theona Checkerspot.

Gary, I think you're right about it being a Checkerspot, but I don't think it's a Theona.  This is the kind of parsing that can drive a man crazy. I've been looking at butterfly books and websites for two days now and I'll still haven't found an exact match. Butterfly ID is not for the faint of heart, nor the fuzzy of eye.   :banghead:

Now this one, on the other hand, I know. It's a Queen butterfly.

By golly, you may be right, Badknees!  Good eyes. I checked my photo against a couple on Greg Lasley's website and they look awfully similar. Some differ, but several are almost identical (see attached photo from Greg's website). Don't know if the variances are just differences in gender, but I'm going to call this one settled for now unless somebody more knowledgeable says otherwise. Thanks!  Now I can go enjoy Father's Day.
