Cherry Springs Canyon
« on: July 12, 2007, 04:02:51 PM »
I have just finished reading Beneath the Window and enjoyed putting all of the places and names together along with the stories.  I have one question about Cherry spring refered to on page 55 and then Cherry Springs Canyon supposed to be in the Chisos somewhere.  I have never heard of either and cannot find it on any map.

She describes a hunting party that drives 5 miles up Blue Creek Canyon from the Homer Wilson ranch headquarters then parks and takes horses up over Javelina Pass (never heard of this one either) and then down the other side to "the permanent camp in Cherry Springs Canyon."  (page 122).

Any ideas?
temperatures exceed 100 degrees F
minimum 1 gallon water per person/day
no shade, no water

Patricia Wilson Clothier had posted to the old chat page and included her email address.  You might try contacting her.  Several of us responded to her post over there with suggestions she join us here, but no luck. :(

I've actually communicated with her a few years ago via email (actually she contacted me).  I believe she is on my VBB mailing list.

Hi RichardM!
Thanks for the link to Patricia Wilson Clothier's post on the other board.  I sure hope she decides to join here.

She mentioned that the

old mine is north of The Window. It was in that bluff/rock formation beneath the trail. There used to be a winch near the crack in the cliff.

Where is that exactly?  Would that be along the trail leading to the Window itself, or over the edge of the window, on the cliff?
