Cell Phone Data Connection Questions
« on: January 05, 2019, 12:29:42 PM »
I was recently in BBNP and nearby areas and experienced a number of areas in the NP where I had a cell signal and could use voice or SMS text but couldn't send MMS (photo) messages nor access the internet.  I have a Motorola Moto G5 smartphone (4G LTE).  The last time I was in Big Bend was in Dec 2011 and I had a Blackberry which did allow MMS and internet access in those same areas of the park.  Both phones were on the ATT network.  When I view the ATT coverage map it shows a "partner" in the area whom I assume doesn't support the 4G data connection.  Anybody had a similar situation and found a solution?

I finally got a data-compatible signal when camped at Vista del Bofecillos in BBRSP.

I have sent MMS and photos from an ATT Iphone in BBNP. Signal strength is the key.

Same here. It's hit and miss. Got a great signal from the top of Casa Grande. ;) At the Lost Mine trailhead parking lot my Samsung wouldn't connect, but my brother's iPhone did. Both were on AT&T.

When were you there?  During busy times the network gets overwhelmed and itís hard to get a data connection except during off hours.

Two weeks ago during Christmas week so network congestion could definitely be a possibility.
