I'm thinking of adding a night at the Indian Lodge to the great wife-in-the-Bend tour.
Leave "quit" at the car.  Embrace the trail as your friend.  Expect to enjoy yourself, and to be amazed.

Great place!  'Twas the first stop on our honeymoon nearly 29 years ago!

Was just there; it is a great place but be warned that the fires have changed the landscape significantly.

Fires? Like recent fires? Where?

I was there less than a year after the big fire. There were obvious signs if the fire, but I didn't think it dramatically changed the landscape. Most of the fire seemed to be between skyline drive and the fort. The peaks behind the lodge looked untouched.  Still just as enjoyable as before.  Hike from the park to the fort and enjoy Kareem Abdul Jabbar's video about fort Davis.

Ok... I knew about that. I was afraid it was last year. The drought was bad enough.

It hasn't recovered; this is a picture of the slopes right behind Indian Lodge, this April:

Another reason for our trip will be to visit an old friend who has kinda gone off grid in the Terlingua area.

Her kids grew up with our kids...she went through an ugly divorce...we've remained in contact (similar outlook; similar values)...she popped up on Facebook a couple of months back...happily remarried and most definitely carving out a new life

The evidence of fire behind Indian Lodge in April, 2014 is from prescribed burning during December, 2013.  That place will look like Ireland in August.
