Great idea. I don't wear makeup other than a mineral based powder that serves as my sunscreen. I don't like the feel of lotiony sunscreen on my face because it's so heavy and greasy feeling. By the end of the day my face feels even grosser.  Plus, I have really sensitive skin and have to be careful what I put on it.

Hey there -- I hope I did not misunderstand your above post......but if you are saying the only sunscreen you use is what is in your mineral based powder.......you might want to rethink that.  In the BB you need a real serious sunscreen at least 25......the higher the better.  The sun is unbelievably intense out there....even on overcast days.  And for your lips, you need some serious protection also.  Bert's Bees makes a "lifeguard formula" that really gives you the protection you need.  Please do not underestimate the effect of the sun (and wind) out there.

Actually I do put on a first layer of sunscreen in the form of my facial moisturizer the morning of the first day out. I also wear a good wide brimmed hat that is supposed to offer maximum sun protection. And, in case of emergencies I do carry sunscreen that has a 50spf and is sweat proof. As far as the rest of my body being exposed to sun...I'll have it covered up with the appropriate clothing.

Wind is certainly something else I was wondering about. Wind burns suck and my lips are really sensitive to it.  Thanks for the Burt's Bees suggestion...I'll look for some. :)

Go find some Dermatone.  It works great for preventing windburn and has a decent SPF as well.  I first bought some while skiing in Maine in subzero temps.  It helped ward off frostbite and I continued to use it whenever I went skiing and never again had a problem with windburn (except for the few times I neglected to use it).  I used the version that comes in the small plastic "tin" like Carmex.  It works fairly well on lips, too.

No, don't put superglue on your lips, but take a trick I learned from reading up on Everest expeditions - take a piece of string and superglue an end of it to the container of "whatever you use" for chapstick.  Then, attach the string either to a lanyard around your neck, your camera strap, whatever - then you have it readily accessible and will use it more often.  Also, I've noticed and have one of the small bottles of sundope that has a carbiner to it.  I attach that also to keep it handy and just refill the bottle with my own sundope as necessary (sundope = sun block).

No super glue needed.  Most ski shops (and maybe REI) sell lip balm on lanyards with a rubber cap that fits on the cap of the balm.

For applying your makeup in the morning on the south rim, how about a camp mirror?

OK, guys, go hijack some other thread.  This is serious.  ;)

Ziplock bags are God's own creation.  A simple paper bag, ziplock, and tp has been my solution.  I put wipes and "extras" in the paper bag and go do my thing.  However, for another option, check out thekeeper.com.  I learned about that on a European-travel forum.  (Matter of fact, many of my light-packing/travel skills carry right over to backpacking.)

No makeup.  Dove, Pond's, lots of similar face wipes out there.  I took two "travel paks" of wipes to BIBE on our July trip and Sweetie used them too.  Sunscreen, yes.  Almay makes a light moisturizer with sunscreen for sensitive skin, as do many cosmetic companies.  Don't do without sunscreen, please.

One day a few years ago, some Google search--obviously not a well-thought-out Google--presented me with instructions for how to pee standing up--for women.  Could be a very useful skill....
As a matter of fact, I _do_ have an opinion on that....
