Just wondering if anyone has a song or two that reminds you of your experiences in the park.

The Townes Van Zandt song "Pancho and Lefty" makes me think of BBNP.

Favorite line:
"The dust that Pancho bit down south
Ended up in Lefty's mouth."

I'm really not all that artsy-fartsy, but I actually had some Mozart tunes for two pianos going through my head as I was working my way slowly up Campground Canyon last week...

I bought a CD of Incan panpipe music from a street musician in Washington D.C. five or six years ago. I always play it in the car as we approach big bend. My friends and I would sometimes hum the songs as we hiked. This eventually led to lyrics being developed (usually about how much hiking sucks).

The first time I went to big bend after college, my friend put on the ecstasy of gold by ennio morricone as we entered the park. That was a pretty fitting song.

I have a few instrumentals that draw me back to specific moments in time at BiBe from the "Sounds of Wood and Steel" cd.    "Surreal" by T. J. Baden, "The Last Mile Home" by Greg Jennings & Larry Stewart, "Who Lives Up There" by W. G. Snuffy Walden, "Into The Night" by Bill Cooley and Kathy Mattea, and "Nothings Too Good For a Friend" by Doyle Dykes.
Having decent gear is nice, but wildlife photography is knowing your subject and getting lucky, and I love getting lucky.

I like the instrumental stuff when I'm out there.  This one is one of my favorites while I'm traversing the backcountry in my jeep (when I had one).....

The songs that remind me of Big Bend tend to be the ones I have listened to while actually in the Park.

"Far From Any Road"  by the Handsome Family.  It was the opening credits song from the 1st season of the HBO series True Detective with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.   The show was set in the swamps of Louisiana so I never understood why they chose this song, but it does set a kind of creepy, foreboding tone.  From the very 1st line "From the dusty mesa" it made me think of the time I've spent in the park.

Wow!  What a high brow group.  Of course Robert Earl Keen, with Gringo Honeymoon at the top of the list.

That's a good one; I've listened to it a couple times en route to big bend. Prefect for that desolate area between del rio and Sanderson.

I, too, think instrumental.  For some reason, the main theme from "The Right Stuff" often comes to mind.
Leave "quit" at the car.  Embrace the trail as your friend.  Expect to enjoy yourself, and to be amazed.

'Gringo Honeymoon' by Robert Earl Keen always brings back memories of crossing the river into Boquillas.  'The Last Pale Light in the West' by Ben Nichols is such an awesome song. It always makes its way into a playlist when I'm headed towards Big Bend.  I'm definetly going to check out everyone's recommendations to this post. Trips to Big Bend are always better when there are good tunes on the stereo.

Peaceful Easy Feeling by the "Eagles" sets me a mood. I always listen to Hotel California on the way home with "the Last Stand" as a finish to the album.
