Since this is for a good cause, I entered a maximum bid of $45.00. So feel free to bid $44.99 to run the current bid up to $45.00.

You're wish is my command.  But, don't get too comfortable with your winning bid.  I'm counting change and sweet talking the boss (wife).  I may yet outbid you.

Thanks Daryl.

I'm heading North for a few days and I'm not sure if I'll have internet access. I'll take my laptop just in case. But if not I'll be back in time to do a little sniping and the end of this thing, so do a lot of sweet talkin to your boss. Take care.

We Seem to Be Stuck @ $35 for this great cause of keeping this board solvent....

Yea, you get the library fine too...  :P

This is a fine book, written only when the park was four years old or so.

Up to $45.  It will really start moving the last day or last few hours of the auction.

This looks like perfect reading material for my next backpacking trip in April.  Plus I like the idea of reading something unique and rare that even OKiehiker doesn't have.   I especially like the idea of helping DavidL now all I need is a strategy to outbid all of those evil snipe bidders.  How's this - If I don't win the bid then whoever wins can either sell me the book after they read it for 75% of the winning bid price, or "rent" me the book for two months for half the winning bid price (in both cases all $$ goes to Casa Grande).   I lose interest in books after I have read them so I don't really want to own the book long-term anyway..TWWG

Now there is an interesting idea.  Get the book, read the book, someone trustworthy hits the 'make a donation' button and makes a contribution equal to or greater than the selling price and the book gets shipped to them. If someone else hits the donation button for an equal or greater amount they get the book.

It is a great idea,  I am patting myself on the back.  I am currently high bidder on ebay but those snipe bidders have me a little worried.   Thanks to ShaneA for thinking up this idea and having the book to put up for bid.  We should all be thinking about what "interesting" items related to Big Bend we might be willing to part with.  Are you allowed to sell wildlife-related items like elk skulls on ebay?  (species not from Park)... Great idea.  It's not much, but I have a spare copy of Cactuses of Big Bend National Park by Douglas B. Evans.  I'll take a couple of shots and post the listing on eBay this evening.  Starting price $1.00.  Free shipping to US (or Mexico for Homerboy).

BTW, if anyone has an extra copy of Cacti of the Trans-Pecos & Adjacent Areas by A. Michael Powell and James A. Weedin, I'd love to bid on it  :D  :D

IF the "collective" we are going to do "stuff" like this to donate money, or at least a portion of the money to BBC, then perhaps Casa Grande should setup another "section" devoted to this.  As I indicated on my origional post, 100% of the proceeds of this sale, less actual costs, will go directly to Casa Grande for support of the board.  But, I could see if someone was wanting to sell something major, a signed copy of something by Maxwell or something, that they may want to donate a % of the proceeds and keep the rest.

Or, we could do the bidding here and leave out eBay as a middle man . . .

Well, I thought about that too, :P  but that opens up all kinds of interesting opportunities and problems   .  Secure transactions, etc.   Totally different ball game when you get into online commerce involving money, etc.  I'd think Casa Grande had rather concentrate on things at hand and leave the Ebaying and Paypalling to the experts.
