Cost: $350. The four-wheel-drive tour includes all meals and bunkhouse lodging. You must provide your own vehicle.

So, is that $350 per person - or as many as you can cram into your vehicle?  I can hold 4 really comfortably, 5 comfortably, in the Avalanche.  I guess they don't provide the gas either.  Actually, I'd be interested in doing that if I could get 3 others interested.  But, Alas I can't make it out there this year.

I wonder, since they are "opening up the back country" of the park, supposedly very soon,  how will this tour differ than the open access?

May 2527, 2007 Big Bend Ranch SP 4X4 Tour Bring your four-wheel drive vehicle and visit scenic and remote parts of the park that are otherwise inaccessible. We will go to Las Burras, Madrid Falls and Fresno Canyon. The tour will be limited to 10 vehicles, so please sign up early. The trails are brushy, so scratches may occur on your vehicle. Call for times; fees include park guide, meals and lodging at the Bunkhouse, $344 Texas State Parks Pass members, $350 non-members; reservations required (432) 229-3416.

It almost sounds like it's on a "per person" basis.

Ummm.....do you really think that is a 'carload' price? Nope.

It will cost a lot more than when you don't need to be 'escorted'.

It is. Aren't fees great?

Yep, called today, but didn't reserve a spot @ $350 per person.  Not sure what they are smokin out there, but it must be good.  $350 per vehicle I could understand with a max of 4 per vehicle or something like that.  But, a couple of meals, a tour guide, and a place to bunk in the bunkhouse.  This isn't LaHideous.

How do you figure "it will cost a lot more when you don't need to be 'escorted' :?:  Since they are opening up more of the park to vehicle travel, hiking, etc. - the daily use fee should apply.

Actually, I wouldn't call this a fee.

More like a fund-raiser.  And yes, Presidio's statement does change meaning if you leave just one little word out.

Yeah, I probably should have said it a little differently, as it is a little confusing.

Regardless of how you split hairs on terminology...if you don't pay, you don't go. That's a fee.
