BBRSP East Entrance
« on: September 17, 2009, 04:26:30 PM »
The store accross the street from the Cottonwood was well stocked and had gas and diesel at a very fair price. stopped there several times even if just for a a Mud Pie. Bought some of their steaks and grilled them while at the Getaway on the ranch. NICE!!!

See you all again in the spring, can't wait.

So the long awaited east entrance to BBRSP is finally open!  Makes a huge difference in accessibility.

I'll say--where do you find it?

The east entrance at Barton Warnock Environmental Education Center is located 1 mile east of Lajitas on the River Road (FM 170).

I guess I am lost.  Can you get in to the ranch house with out driving so far west to come back east?  And has the BWEEC been there for years?

Yes, the BWEEC has been there for years. The BBRSP map currently shows only trails leading from the BWEEC. No roads anywhere near there. I'm not sure what this all means.

Guess I'm lost, too.  Only thing I see is refernce to 170 at Barton Warnock being the "East Entrance" to the park;  but that's the way it's always been.  What am I missing?

I'm thinking Al got a little carried away and thought something had changed. I goofed and didn't start by checking when the page was last updated:

It was news to me.  I've always had to enter from the west. I knew they were working on it, but this is first I knew it was open but I must admit the last time I camped in BBRSP was 2008 and the last time I tried to come in from the east was in 1990 when the park was first opening and the east entrance was blocked.  Also I had read that recent land aquisitions made it park land along it's length.

Roy, when was the first time you drove from Sauceda to Lajitas via the east entrance?

Al, I just don't see anything on the page you've linked to that says there's a new entrance.

Roy, Non-responsive as lawyers say.  Have you driven via the east entrance from Lajitas to Sauceda or visa versa?  I've always had to come in from the west.

Perhaps it would have been more accurate if I had said, the east entrance is finally actually an entrance which is a VERY big deal based on my experience.

Al, I've never driven to Sauceda from either dirrection.  All I'm trying to find out is where there's a new entrance;  I agree it would be a big improvement.  But I've read that page over several times and can't see it.

Perhaps an over-assumption on my part based on earlier posts and other info.  I do recall it being in the works with the recent acquisition of private land providing continuous public land to the east entrance.  I'll inquire further and report back.
