Discovery Chanel's - Man vs. Wild (Bear Grylls) @ Guale 2

Not kidding...

A week or two after we got back from our trip, I was preparing dinner with the TV on Discovery Channel in the background.  I heard them say "West Texas" so I turned it up and payed a little closer attention.  As it turns out Bear jumps from a plane and lands somewhere near the Guale Mesa.  You're kidding rightl?

The landscape just south of the campsite is quite unique and athe formation "La Guitarra" is unforgettable. I was so sure that I went on the web and got a copy of Season 4 (2009) to verify.  4:58 in to the show he pops his head up over and you see him looking over Rancherias Canyon with La Guitarra in the background.  I was so surprised it still gives me shivers...

Discover Chanel airs reruns every so often if you want to see the whole thing for youself.  It actually does a pretty good job of giving you a feel of the area.  The episode is called "Texas", Season 4

Compare it the the TPWD pictures here:

All good but there is only one person that got it right... Guale 2   :notworthy:

Thanks for the heads-up on on this show.  I watched it last night and laughed my ass off.  I thought it was hilarious watching Bear running around the Guale 2 campsite at BBRSP talking about finding civilization.  If he'd just walked about a quarter mile to his SW, he would have seen Presidio.

I'm curious...was that Madrid Falls he swung into with his ridiculous rope and "grappling" hook?  Also, it appeared that he "climbed" down from Hwy. 170 into Madera Canyon and swam across the river into Mexico to be greeted by one of Presidio County's finest.  Is that what I saw?  :rolling:

Even though his show is heavily edited and full of some truly ridiculous notions (like running around like an idiot in the desert and swinging across "canyons"), it still has few pearls of wisdom (like creosote repelling bugs and digging to find water).  He must work very closely with locals.  My guess is that the folks at BBRSP had a hoot consulting on the show.

...and for the record it's just a "little longer" than a 1/4 mile to Presidio from Guale 2.

Hey, I remember that post.  Just curious, though.  Do you really think I meant that the campsite is a quarter mile from Presidio?  :icon_razz:
