Earthquake in state park?
« on: June 21, 2019, 08:41:32 PM »
I was on the USGS website and they have posted a 3.9 earthquake listed as occurring in the state park on 6/18/19. Was wondering if anyone had any other information about it.

Ranger Tim- we need a man-on-the-scene report!
Leave "quit" at the car.  Embrace the trail as your friend.  Expect to enjoy yourself, and to be amazed.

Not much to report. Staff at Sauceda reported either nothing or being awakened by a light shaking as if someone bumped into the bed. Earthquakes are not uncommon in the Big Bend, though strong ones are. If anything it is a gentle reminder that geology lives in the present as well as the past.

Thanks Ranger Tim. Just what I was wondering about. I have never experienced one, so I have nothing to judge it by. Now hurricanes......

Yeah, I've been through plenty of hurricanes... about 9 I think the count is.
I've only been through one earthquake, about 10 days after Hurricane Roxanne in Cozumel. I flew to Mexico City as soon as the airport opened up and a 4.0 earthquake hit the next afternoon.  I never noticed it, but the folks I was working with all levitated out of their chairs and hit the stairs to escape, haha.

Visited the park for the first time from the 11th-16th. Strange to see this post after just leaving. What an amazing place! I backpacked, saw the birds and reptiles I wanted to see and even a nutria at Rio Grande Village. I will definately be back!
