Rancherias or La Mota 2
« on: December 10, 2017, 07:30:37 PM »
I'm headed down for 2 nights in BBRSP 12/20 - 12/22.  Have studied 'Campsites of BBRSP' and I think i've narrowed my site down to either Rancheries or La Mota 2.  The only place i've actually camped before in BBRSP is Guale 2, but have driven around it a fair bit.  Seems that the area around the Rancherias campsite will be more akin to Guale 2 as far as scenery, etc.  La Mota 2 interests me because i'd like to try to get to the top of La Mota, because i imagine it would be quite a view.  Also, i always like to glass for wildlife from a high spot.  Would one of the two be better for that?  One last thing (and this could make the decision for sure), i drive a chev 1500, but it's 2wd.  I think i'm ok on clearance, but no 4wd.  Would getting to the Rancherias campsite definitely require 4wd?  Given all of this, could anyone suggest one or the other campsites?  Maybe Ranger Tim could chime in??  Thanks!

Don't even entertain getting a 2wd to Rancherias. La Mota 2 is your ticket FOR SURE. You can easily get a 2wd high clearance vehicle to La Mota 2 with few problems, but there is a hill just North of the Rancherias site that you will NOT make it back up if you go  down. I don't really even like driving to Rancherias in my burly 4wd jacked up state truck.
