I'm in the early planning stages for a trip with my tender-footed but lovely wife into Big Bend Ranch State Park. This will be my first 4X4 excursion. I've solo backpacked the area twice in years past. Our destination is Guale Mesa which is accessible by 4X4 but still fairly remote.
Her birthday is December 21 and since 12/21/12 is supposed to be the end of the world, I figure, what better place to watch the stars fall from the heavens than the Chihuahua Desert.
I know there's evidence of Native American activity near there and that the Rangers will map them out when you register but does anyone know how far from the Guale Mesa Campsite they are. I don't want to get my wife's hopes up for being able to day-hike to see them if it's going to be too far.

Sounds like a great adventure. :icon_cool:   Is the trip still on, Reece?  :)
