Last minute trip prep- Weather report and trail conditions?
« on: February 08, 2020, 09:10:00 PM »
Heading to BBRSP for the first time 2/14-2/17.   We have Fresno Canyon & Guale 2 booked.  I have done a ton of research and have a good idea of what to expect out of the roads in context of Desert pin-striping etc.  I will be throwing a thick coat of wax on to try and combat this a little bit, but adventure is why I bought the truck...  Rig is a 2019 Chevy Zr2 which has factory lift, lockers, 31" Goodyear Duratracs (C-load), rock sliders, light armor etc.  1 full size spare, and I am bringing flat repair equipment; Plugs, Slime (2nd backup), and an air compressor.

Anything we should know about conditions this week other than the cold?

Thanks in advance!

I've never been on those roads but here is where I get weather. I usually check both of these to verify.
Alpine - https://www.wunderground.com/forecast/us/tx/alpine/KTXALPIN35
Terlingua - https://www.wunderground.com/forecast/us/tx/big-bend-national-park/29.27,-103.30

Looks pretty good right now but I usually pull this up every day, all the way until my departure. I'm kind of a weather geek/freak.
There are some places so beautiful they can make a grown man break down and weep.

Expect anything from 20 degrees to 90 degrees and rain, sun, snow, or wind. February is notoriously unpredictable and it is not hyperbolic to suggest that you'll see all phases of weather during your short visit. The road to Guale is pretty rough right now (and you will get a desert carwash) but the road to Fresno Canyon is as smooth as I have ever seen it!
